Andrea Sue Hudson
December 10, 1946 - April 14, 2022
Andrea, better known as Sue, Hudson died peacefully in her sleep, following a brief illness, the morning of April 14, 2022. Sue was my best friend and beloved sister. She will be greatly missed. Sue was born in Conneaut on December 10, 1946 to Myron W. Hudson and Elsie E. (Hackathorn) Hudson. She lived her life almost exclusively in Pierpont. She was a 1964 graduate of Edgewood Sr. High School and received a bachelor degree from Kent State University. As a child and teenager she was involved in 4-H both sewing and animals. She showed a Grand Champion Jersey cow named Cheryl. She was also active in Junior Grange. On the family farm she helped doing chores, planting crops, gardening, making maple syrup in the spring and baling hay to name a few. Later in life she and her parents raised sweet corn, strawberries, melons and raspberries. She enjoyed going to the school and recruiting the young students to come and pick the strawberries. She kept in touch with several of them. After college she went to work at the Willoughby Library. There she met and mentored several teenage patrons. They were “city” kids whom she brought out often on the weekends to the family farm. Sue remained close to a couple of them to present day. Sue enjoyed mentoring and nurturing young people. She took her niece and nephew and friends to the movies, plays, shopping and just helping with projects they had. For many years Sue was a substitute teacher and taught at many of the various schools in the county. She also tutored many students. She enjoyed this very much until her sight problems caused her to stop. Sue and her mother were very talented. Her mom shared her talent for handicrafts with all her girls. Sue could knit sew, macramé, embroider, quilt and various other crafts. She was a member of several quilt guilds and served as President of NEORQC. Besides attending and entering quilt shows she and her mom also organized several quilt shows. She was very active in this until her eyesight started failing with macular degeneration. Sue and her sister Rena were in the same grade in school for several years until eighth grade. Sue continued to do many activities with Rena including bowling on the Grange league, taking her bowling for Ashcraft and Special Olympics, shopping, bus trips, Cleveland team sporting events and various other activities. This lead Sue to serve on the Ashtabula Council for the Developmentally Disabled and the board for The Maples Residential Homes. The family operated a corn maze for a few years. Sue mainly took care of the customers. She enjoyed visiting with the customers some of whom came several times. She missed it when we no longer had one but often longed to do it again. There was a petting zoo also. She loved showing people the menagerie of animals and taking care of the “herd” of goats she and her sister had. Sue was very interested in genealogy and family history. She helped cousins and her sister with information she knew. She was a constant source of information and a link to family ties. This will be missed immensely. She knew so much and was a great source of information of all kinds. She loved watching “Jeopardy” and all sorts of quiz shows. At Kent Sue had been a theater major and loved all aspects of the art from performing, doing sets and costumes. She put together a “Follies” performance at the school in Pierpont with many of the residents participating. She loved going to plays and movies. One of the fondest memories she has left behind is the joy she experience taking an Anderson tour to Pittsburg this March to see “Hamilton” with her sister, a cousin and a friend. There is so much to tell of this wonderful friend, family and companion but I must stop for now. Sue is preceded in death by her loving parents Myron and Elsie Hudson and sister Rena Hudson. She is survived by her brother Bill (Jo) Hudson and sister Pam Hudson. Nephew Mitch Hudson, niece Marcy Hudson, great nephew Mitchell Withrow and great nieces Chloe and Abi Kurian. A memorial service will be held Saturday April 30, 2022 at the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 SR 7. Visitation from 10 am to 11 am. Services will follow. Please bring your stories and remembrances to share. Lake Erie Crematory and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH assisted the family with arrangements. www.LakeErieCrematory.com
