John M. “Butch” Onion, 73, of Ashtabula, Ohio, was born May 3, 1948, to John Carl and Alice (Emery) Onion. He passed away suddenly at home on March 9, 2022. He attended Harbor High School in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was employed by Pinney Dock, Hills Department Store, YW-YMCA and Glastic Corporation in Jefferson, Ohio. Butch was a friendly guy who loved to hang out with his buddies, talk to friends on his C.B. Radio, and drive around in his car and old truck. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, wrestling, and TV westerns, especially, Walker, Texas Ranger starring Chuck Norris, and listening to older country western music. He is survived by his former wife, Judith Perkins, the mother of his two oldest sons, John Frank Onion and Jeffrey Theodore Onion; sisters, Pat Sprye and Mary Riggs of Baltimore, Maryland; brother James G. Onion; ex-wife, Jean Sanford the mother of his daughter, Lila Jean; ex-wife, Kim Onion; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Alice Onion; his youngest son, Jeffrey T. Onion on Feb. 25, 2021; and his son, Timothy J. Onion in 2020. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
