Beatrice Gretta (Cottrell) Champlin, 81 of Conneaut, OH passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Jefferson Healthcare in Jefferson, OH. Bea was born on February 1, 1943 in Orma, WV, the daughter of Lawrence and Emily (Parsons) Cottrell. She was a 1961 graduate of Conneaut Valley High School in PA, and married Oral 'Chub' Champlin on October 28, 1961. Bea worked for a short while at the Conneaut Can Company, then devoted the rest of her life to caring for her family and others. Even though diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 1974, she was never one to complain about her pain, and always focused on the care and happiness of others. She devoted her life to her children and many grandchildren, farming, gardening, and raising her beloved Jack Russell Terrier pups. For 62 years she enjoyed many adventures with her husband, 'Chub'. Together they founded the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department in 1973, and Bea was the ladie's auxiliary president. Summer vacations were week-long travel and camping trips with the Ashtabula County Wagon Train club, for which she served as the secretary for many years. She also served as the campsite scout for their three-month long 1999 mule drawn covered wagon trip from Conneaut, OH to Texarkana, TX. Bea is survived by her children, Duane Champlin, Pam Champlin, Hollie Champlin, Nancy (Greg) Hamper, and Debbie (Ken) Norris; and her beloved 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Bea was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oral, a cherished grandchild and great-grandchild. To honor Bea's request, there will be no funeral services or visitation. The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
