Bruce M. McDowell, 77, of Jefferson, Ohio passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Saybrook Landing in Ashtabula.
He was born June 4, 1946, in Akron, Ohio to the late Max and Helen (Park) McDowell. Bruce graduated from Chardon High School on June 9, 1965, and immediately entered the U.S. Army. On April 2, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Martha Vandenburg. After he was honorably discharged on July 30, 1970, they moved to Ashtabula County and have been residents ever since.
Bruce was a member of Trumbull and Morgan Townships volunteer fire departments and was a First Responder EMT and Paramedic with South Central Ambulance District. He taught first aid for the American Red Cross, CPR for the American Heart Association, was a trained Fire Marshall and a dedicated member of several Masonic bodies in Geauga, Ashtabula, and Trumbull counties.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years, Martha McDowell; son, Bruce R. McDowell; grandsons, Bruce R. McDowell II, and Zachary McDowell; great grandchildren, Ayslen McDowell, Connor McDowell, and Aria McDowell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 2-5pm at Morgan Hose Fire Hall, 3033 E Water St, Rock Creek, OH 44084.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to South Central Ambulance Auxiliary, 3100 US Highway 6, Rome, OH 44085.
Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
