Carl Jake Di Donato, 75, of Ashtabula, Ohio passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at UH Cleveland Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born July 13, 1947 in Geneva, Ohio to the late John Sr. and Arlene (Fuller) Di Donato. A lifelong resident of Ashtabula, Carl graduated from St. John High School in 1966 and then was drafted into the US Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War where he honorably served until his discharge in 1969. After his discharge he returned home to Ashtabula and began his career with the Union Carbide Linde Air Plant where he spent the next 34 years until his retirement from Prax Air in 2004.
Carl was very active in the American Legion Dewey Howlett Post 103 in Ashtabula where he held many positions over the years. He is best known for his dedication and commitment as the Commander of the Honor Guard for the past 15 years and he most recently served as the Post Commander. Carl was a very kind and loving person and his love for his family and his country was evident in everything he did.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy (Marrison) Di Donato; daughters, Kimberly (Ray) Munger and Charlotte "Charlie" Di Donato (David Norris); 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Bonita) Di Donato, Jr.; sister-in-law, Renee Bush; brother-in-law, Harry Marrison.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, John and Arlene Di Donato, Sr.; father and mother-in-law, Harry and Dorothy Marrison.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 2-4pm at the American Legion Dewey Howlett Post 103, 1804 West 19th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio concluding with full Military Honors.
In place of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the American Legion Post 103 Honor Guard.
Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
