Carl Ronald Nelson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2025. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 22, 1957, to Thomas and Geraldine Nelson (Artman), Carl lived a life filled with dedication, passion, and love.
Carl graduated from Ashtabula High School and went on to attend Lakeland Community College. Over the years, he worked as an I&E technician, maintenance supervisor, and licensed CDL truck driver. His strong work ethic and leadership abilities led him to serve as president of his local Steelworkers Union, where he advocated tirelessly for his fellow workers.
Beyond his professional life, Carl was an active and engaged member of his community. He was on the Vestry at St. Peter Episcopal Church and contributed his time and energy to organizations such as CMRO Region 13. His charitable work with CMRO and the Hope and a Future food pantry demonstrated his deep commitment to helping others.
Carl had a larger-than-life personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was an avid sports fan and memorabilia collector, with a deep appreciation for classic rock. Some of his fondest memories were made attending concerts with his beloved wife, Debra Fay Nelson, whom he married on July 13, 1991. Carl also had a passion for the open road and found great joy in riding his Harley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Geraldine Nelson; his daughter, Tiffany Nelson; and his siblings, Homer Greer and Tony D'Andrea, and one great granddaughter too.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Debra Nelson; his son, Andrew Nelson; and his cherished grandchildren, Kayla and Dylan Sizemore, Terrence Hobson Jr., Emma Shortridge, and Mabel Nelson. He also leaves behind his siblings, Kim Blevins, John Greer, and Marinda Kennedy, along with many friends, colleagues, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
On Monday, Feb. 17th, 2025, a Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00am and a Service to honor Carl's life will be held 11:00am both at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, officiated by Father Peter Nielsen. His family invites all who knew and loved him to come together in remembrance of a life well lived. There will be a luncheon immediately following.
Carl's legacy of kindness, dedication, and enthusiasm for life will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
