Obituary

Clair Walter Woodburn, age 100, of Ashtabula, Ohio passed away Wednesday evening, May 5th, 2021 at University Hospitals Brown Memorial in Conneaut. Born March 3, 1921 in Ashtabula to parents Charles D. Woodburn and Lucille Whitman. Clair proudly served our Country in the U.S. Army AirCorp. serving during WWII, and he was a member of the 5th Airforce and the 41st Fighter Squadron. Clair was self-employed for over 25 years with his company Woodburn Construction. In 1972 Clair sold his construction company and worked in Construction Management and was the Chief Building Inspector for Ashtabula County. Clair retired after years of service in 1992. In his free time, he loved to build model WWII airplanes, enjoyed playing and watching baseball, he was a Little League coach when his kids were younger, a Boy Scout Leader, and he also enjoyed gambling and visiting the Casinos. Clair was a member of the East Side Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula. He is survived by his loving wife Charlene M. (March) Woodburn, his children; Beth (Anthony) Costa of Naples, FL., Rusty (Liz) Woodburn of Naples, FL., John (Sheila) Woodburn of Ashtabula, OH., and stepchildren; Jackie Ervin of Las Vegas, NV., John (Pam) March of Houston, TX., and Jerry (Virginia) March of Jacksonville, NC. Clair is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren and his sister-in-law Beverly Woodburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lucia M. Woodburn, and his siblings; Merle Woodburn, Wallace "Wally" Woodburn and Lulajean Elwood. A Memorial Visitation Service will be held at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd., Geneva on Saturday May 8th, 2021 from 12:00pm-1:00pm. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm at the Funeral Home. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will immediately follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Plymouth, OH. Memorial donations may be made in Clair's name to the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Dr., Ashtabula, OH. 44004. Current Covid-19 guidelines are required to be followed at services.
