Obituary

Dennis G. "Denny" Brown, 1946 – 2025
Dennis G. "Denny" Brown, age 78, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, in the quiet of the morning.
Born and raised in Toledo, Denny graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School. During this time, he excelled in hockey, track, hurdles, weight-lifting, and football. He earned a degree in electronic engineering from the University of Toledo and his first job out of college was working for a contractor at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Then, for 38 years, he worked as a dedicated sales engineer for Schweber Electronics, Midwest Marketing, and B & C Communications until his retirement in 2012.
A lifelong fisherman and captain of his beloved boat, Brownie (named after his father, Theron Brown), Captain Denny founded Offshore Charters in 1988, taking countless people out for an adventure on Lake Erie to catch their limit of walleye, perch, and bass. His passion for Lake Erie and fishing was matched only by his joy in sharing it with others. He was an educator to all of his clients and many of his friends say that Denny taught them all they know about fishing.
In 2014, Denny began a new chapter of service by joining the Euclid Police Citizen's Academy. Later, he was proudly sworn in as an Auxiliary Police Officer of the Euclid Police Department on May 2, 2016. He served by volunteering at all hours of the day and night with traffic control and event security, as well as giving hours of his time hosting department fish frys —always using fish he caught himself—and by participating in the Hooked on Fishing program that taught local community children how to bait, cast, and catch fish.
Denny was known as a Good Samaritan in his neighborhood—he never waited to be asked for help and never sought recognition. Whether it was plowing snow, mowing lawns, or fixing a problem, he simply showed up when someone needed a hand and found joy and purpose in giving. He was also a master host at gatherings, happiest when offering food or a drink, and making sure those around him were comfortable and cared for.
Denny, son of Theron and Geraldine Brown (both deceased), is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Kathleen Brown; his daughter, Cristin Brown; his brother and sister-in-law, Theron Jr. and Carol Brown; his sister, Sheila Towns (wife of the late Jeffrey Towns); his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Roberta Spitulski; and his many beloved nieces and nephews.
Farewell, Denny Brown, the Captain of our Hearts.
