Obituary

Donald J. Mah, 94, passed away December 11, 2025, of old age. Born in a farmhouse to
Slovenian parents on September 14, 1931, he was taught farming until graduating from
Madison High School in 1949. He then worked as a bricklaying apprentice, interrupted by the
Korean War, from which he was discharged from the Air Force at the rank of staff sergeant.
Upon returning, he continued apprenticing for four years and became a home builder in
Madison, Perry, and Geneva, specializing in brick and stone fireplaces. He loved to teach others
about the profession, many eventually starting their own masonry companies and becoming
very qualified contractors. In the 1960s, he bought Driftwood Inn in Geneva and spent the next
years meeting many local, Warren, and Youngstown people who became close friends. He was
well known for annual pig roasts at his lake house in Pymatuning. He also operated grape
vineyards, selling to local wineries. He said people have to love what they do and they will
always enjoy life. He was proud of his Slovenian heritage and often spent Sundays at SNPJ
Lodge in Kirtland enjoying polkas. He also loved to watch the Cleveland Guardians and Browns.
He has requested a private burial with no calling hours. Donations can be made to the VA, VFW,
and American Legion to support his fellow veterans. Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services assisted the family with arrangements, 1500 Harpersfield Rd., Geneva, Ohio, 44041. www.LakeErieCrematory.com
