Obituary

Michael Anthon, age 77, of Rome, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 after a long illness.
He was born January 26, 1946 in Buffalo, New York to the late A. Charles and Bernadine Vera (Meyer) Anthon and graduated from Hutchinson Central Technical High School. After graduation, he attended the Navy Electronics School where he finished second in his class. He then went on to honorably serve in the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965-1968 receiving a Bronze Star and Vietnam campaign medal. In 1995, he married Marilyn L. Leonardi who preceded him in death in 1998. In 2006, he married Jennifer L. Roland and together they shared 17 years of love and memories.
Michael had a long career as a field engineer working for Technicare, Creo and Kodak. In his spare time, he had many interests and hobbies including a passion for travel. He traveled abroad extensively and also traveled extensively in the United States visiting nearly all of the National Parks and Alaska. He enjoyed hiking in the woods at the local parks with his beloved dogs, Cookie, Rowdy, and Molly. The cats didn't like to hike but he loved them also. He loved boating and fishing and took trips to great fishing places like Louisiana and Alaska and was a member of the Salmon Club. He was also a member of the local ATV club and, as an avid photographer, was a member of the Western Reserve Photographic Society and Geneva Camera Club. He also loved everything about baseball – Spring Training, going to regular season games, and going to the World Series. At home, Michael loved woodworking and was good at fixing things and building things and often helped friends and family with projects. One of his recent lifetime achievements was building a beautiful log home where he and Jennifer lived having finished all the interior himself with a little help from his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Jennifer L. Roland; step-daughters, Cynthia A. Valentyn, Allison E. Arsouzy, and Lisa A. Powell; granddaughter, Kristen Davis; siblings, Christopher J. (Jill) Anthon, Philip D. Anthon, and Mary (Mark) Emmerson; sister-in-law, Patricia Anthon; nieces and nephews, Mathew, Carolyn, Jeanne, Juli, Bryon, Alex, and Jacqueline.
