George T. Louma, Sr.

George T. Louma, Sr., 76, of Plymouth Township in Ashtabula, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with his wife at his side after years of battling multiple health issues, including Parkinson’s which he could not overcome.

He was born October 19, 1949, in Conneaut, Ohio to the late George M. and Margaret (McNamara) Louma.

On January 1, 1990, he married Shirley Gibson in Ashtabula and together they have shared more than 36 years of love and memories.

George had worked in the maintenance department of the Ashtabula Area City Schools for 20+ years. He had also worked for Ranger Express, R&L Trucking (driving for the USPS) and the Gazette in Jefferson. In his younger years, he worked for an ambulance company and Aunt Jemima’s Restaurant. When he wasn’t working, George loved watching NASCAR races, especially #3 Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and he was able to attend a live race once in Talladega which was a highlight in his life. He also loved to travel and went on many trips with Shirley and other family members. George also loved Christmas! He and Shirley were known for their large Christmas light displays and people would come from near and far, even buses and nursing home shuttles, to see their display. Over the years, they won numerous awards in the annual Christmas Light contest until finally winning first place then quit entering. George and Shirley were also known for having a large 4th of July gathering every year at their home with large numbers of family and friends attending. He was a very hard worker all of his life and would always lend a hand when needed. He and Shirley built up a nice homestead with George always building or making what Shirley envisioned. He had a heart of gold!

He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. (Gibson) Louma; children, Lisa Louma and George T. Louma, Jr.; stepsons that he loved as his own sons, Nick Row, Jamie Row and Scott (Ashley) Row; grandchildren, Connor Row, Dylan Row, Alexis Row, Harper Row, Aaron Row, and Clayton Row; great-grandchildren, Brayden Row, Kaelum Row, Carter Row, Jasper Row, and baby Girl Row due in two weeks; loving sister, Kathy (Tom) Howard.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Margaret (McNamara) Louma; a very wanted and loved infant child that was sadly lost before birth; sister, Mary Ann (Gene) Pushic; grandparents, John and Mary McNamara.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 7pm at Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio 44041. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5pm until the time of service. He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Plymouth Township.

The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to Adoration Hospice for their special care of George, especially to Coco, Christy, and Angelica, his caregivers.
