Obituary

George F. Poe, age 71, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, at his home with his wife by his bedside. He was born July 12, 1953, in Painesville, Ohio, to parents William and Dolly (Dowden) Poe. George married Donna Utter on August 25, 1983. Together they were married for 41 years. George graduated from Madison High School, class of 1972. He worked at Yoes Nursery in Madison while in High school then Lincoln electric, graduated top of the class. He retired from Lubrizol Corp in Painesville, Ohio after 20 years. In his retirement he worked for Renzberberger cab driver for the railroaders. He met a lot of nice people doing that and enjoyed the job. He was an EMT for Lubrizol Corp and later worked outside squad for Madison Ambulance Service. George enjoyed playing golf and baseball. In his early years, bowling at four teams in the area, but his favorite sport was his 65 Chevy Nova II Racing at Thompson Raceway Park. He had years of racing and even winning some of the races.
George is survived by his loving wife, Donna Poe; sons, Woodrow Utter of Tucson, AZ and Scott Utter of Geneva, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Lisa (Duff) Utter; grandchildren, Clay Utter, Christian Duff, Kaylee Duff and Brittany Powers; aunt, Shelby Adams, of PA; many nieces and nephews; cousin, Terry Gabbert of Grafton, WV and his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Dolly (Dowden) Poe; in-laws, Bill and Gwen Garee; sister-in-law, Judith Taylor; aunt, Natalie Gabbert; uncles, George and David Dowden; grandparents, John and Ada Dowden.
Special thank you from the family to Capital Health for all of their love and care, Hospice of the Western Reserve for their love and care and most of all Hoffman Pharmacy in Ashtabula, for home delivery of all medications.
Keeping with George's wishes, a cremation will take place with no services.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in George's name to be made to the APL.
