George Frederick Zahler III, 54, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, of natural causes.
George was born on July 13, 1971, in Willoughby, Ohio, to Kathryn J. Zahler and George Zahler Jr., and wed Dorothy Noble on August 26, 1995, in Ashtabula, OH.
A passionate cook by trade and by heart, George dedicated many years to the culinary field. Starting in the 90's he worked as a cook and manager at TJ's on the Avenue on and off for 20 plus years where he had many friends throughout the years. He also worked at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, and later as a cook at Sparky's Place and Table 985. George played a significant role in the opening of Table 985, taking great pride in his work and the community it created.
Outside of work, George was a devoted hockey fan and a proud supporter of the Erie Otters, where he sponsored players and actively participated in fan club activities. He was an avid festival and concert goer and had a deep love for music and history.
George is survived by his former spouse, Dorothy Zahler; his son, Nathan Zahler; and his siblings, Scott, Michael (Reba), Margaret (Blaine), Karl (Christina), and Todd. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, Shelbi and Alivia, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH 44041. A private inurnment will take place at Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League, an organization close to George's heart.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to George's work family—past and present—and to all who cared for him so deeply. George truly loved working with you and was incredibly proud of creating dishes that people would enjoy and remember.
