Howard Edwin VanDriest was born to parents Howard Sr. and Olive (Rein) VanDriest on Thursday, January 9th, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio. He lived with his parents and younger
sister Gayle on VanDriest Farms in Concord, Ohio. Howard married Barbara (nee. Stephenson) on January 28, 1961. Together, they operated and managed VanDriest Excavating Company and their family farm, welcoming three children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and animals of all kinds. Howard was a skilled pilot, mechanic, and hunter who loved to square dance with Barbara. He shared a special
connection with horses and passed on his love for equestrianism to many generations. Howard was an active member of the BPOE #549, The Quiet Birdmen, The Experimental Aircraft Association, ORCO, The Weslaco Sportsmen's Club, The Ohio Gun Collectors Association, The NRA, The Farm Bureau, The Lake County Fairboard and The FOPA. In addition, he served as a Deputy to the Lake County Sheriff's Department and The Painesville Fire Department. Howard passed away peacefully and
surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, at the age of 87. Howard is survived by his Daughter, Lisa VanDriest-Gable (Randy); Grandchildren, Jessica (Anthony) Francis, Aurora Frances; and Garrett Gable; Son, Gregory VanDriest
(Laura); Grandchild, Vance (Katlyne) VanDriest; Great-Grandchild, Lilly VanDriest; Daughter, Vanessa (Brad) Brewster (nee. VanDriest); Grandchildren, Bond (Giovanni) D'Angelo (nee. Brewster), Braden, and Bryce Brewster. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Barbara, Parents, Sister, and Grandson, Brodie Brewster. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at the Brewster Residence located at 8632 Auburn Road, Chardon, Ohio
