James Charles Spragg

James Charles Spragg, 85, of Madison, Ohio, passed away on August 9, 2026, at UH Geneva Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio.

James proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1964. During his years of service, he was associated with the USS Intrepid and the Attackron Squadron 66 and was a part of the Navy Riffle Pistol Team. His military service was an important and meaningful part of his life.

Following his military service, James built a career with Royal Plastics, where he worked as a supervisor before retiring in 2003.

James was a proud and active member of American Legion Post 601, where he served in leadership, dedicated Color Guard Member and as a past Post Commander. He was a Scout Master for Troop 159. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Curtis, Jonathan (Stephanie) Simerlink, Justin Simerlink, Kyle Spragg, Jacob Spragg, and Nicole Spragg; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Christian Simerlink, Delcie Rose and Brooklynn Grace, and Theodore Simerlink, who will all carry his memory and the lessons he shared with them.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Spragg, and his children, Sheila Spragg, James Spragg, and Pamela Simerlink (Spragg).

James will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his commitment to his community, and the many years he gave to the organizations and people he cared about.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2026, from 1:00-4:00pm at American Legion Post 601, 1725 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post 601.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the UH medical staff and American Legion Post 601 for their care, support, and kindness.
