James M. McGill

James Michael “Mike” McGill, 60, of Rome, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Born on February 18, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio, James was the son of the late Porter and Mary McGill. He was a proud graduate of Doddridge County High School and later completed training in law enforcement and military police service.

James faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Military Police officer. During his service, he earned several distinctions, including the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, and Pistol Marksman Badge. Following his military service, he worked for more than 20 years with Thomas Fence, where he was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and dependable character.

On May 10, 2025, in Harpersfield, Ohio, James married the love of his life, Denise McGill. Together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, family, and cherished memories.

James had a creative spirit and enjoyed drawing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and taking road trips. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family and friends. His easygoing nature, sense of humor, and loyal friendship will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Denise McGill; his children, Alisia McGill, Mark and Erika McGill, Matthew McGill, Jacob McGill, and Jared McGill; his grandchildren, Angel Garza and Elia McGill; his siblings, Porter “Butter” McGill and longtime girlfriend Anna, Kenneth and Mindi McGill, Vaughn and Darlene McGill, Mary “Jane” McGill, and Thelma “Sally” Fine; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, Michael “Mikey” McGill. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Stuart and Della Maxwell, and Ted and Carrie McGill.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
