Obituary

Jason Andrew Gray, age 48, of Ashtabula, OH., passed away on October 2nd, 2025, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. Jason was born on October 6th, 1976, in Columbus, OH., to parents Beth Ann (Trethewey) Staas, and Larry Stephen Gray.
Jason attended Elida High School and was a 1995 graduate, he then went on to attend Wright State where he attended college courses. Jason married his long-time companion (20+years) Wendy (Wilkinson) Snavely on August 1, 2025 (in a symbolic marriage ceremony) while he was hospitalized at Metro Health in Cleveland. Jason was a proud volunteer at a food distribution center in Dayton, OH., for many years before he moved to Geneva in 2005. He also held many volunteer positions in Ashtabula County over the past 20 years; he loved to help others.
Jason worked to help Fresh Start Ministry at Lighted Cross Lutheran Church. He also helped with produce distribution at Plymouth Methodist Church. Jason also loved to volunteer at Rayven's Act of Kindness and Adam's Angel's 912 Nonprofit in 2020.
Jason was a member of the Lighted Cross Lutheran Church of Ashtabula for many years.
He is survived by his loving companion and wife, Wendy Snavely, his mother Beth Ann (Trethewey) Staas and Step-father William Leonard Staas, step-mother, Patricia Gray, his brothers Aaron (Gina) H. Gray, and Benjamin T. Staas, step-brothers, Alan J. (Michelle) Staas, Christopher E. Staas, and step-sister Audra Murlin. Jason is also survived by his step-sons, Nicholas (Des) Snavely, and Kristoffer Snavely, and his granddaughter Allison Snavely and her half-brother Grayson S. who called Jason "Papa Jay". Jason is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and cousins on both sides, and numerous aunts and uncles on the Gray, Trethewey and Staas branches of the family as well as his wife's family that has been a part of his life the last 20 years.
Jason is preceded in death by his father, Larry Stephen Gray, by his paternal grandparents, Eugene Boyd Gray and Eula Bell Gray, his maternal grandparents, William C. and Kathryn T. (Clark) Trethewey.
A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday Nov. 1st, 2025, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd., Geneva, OH. A Celebration of Life/Luncheon will immediately follow at 1:30pm at Geneva V.F.W., 76 Depot Street, Geneva, OH.
In place of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to any of the following non-profits: 1.) Rayven's Acts of Kindness (on Facebook, Ashtabula, Ohio), 2.) Adam's Angels 912, 3715 Oak Lane, Ashtabula, OH., 44004, 3.) Food Pantry's that provide for those in need in your area.
The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to the medical teams at ARMC ER, nurses and doctors, DaVita Dialysis in Ashtabula, the trauma doctors and nurses at Cleveland MetroHealth on 5 E & W, and the staff of G-101 Transplant Floor of the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. Your care and compassion on Jason's medical journey was appreciated so much.
