Jean Hannon Lamoureux

Jean (Hannon) Lamoureux, 82, of Madison, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Jean Hannon grew up on Oakridge Drive in Cleveland Heights, graduated from Beaumont School in 1961, and went on to Marquette University, class of 1965. After college she worked for the National Security Administration in Washington D.C. What exactly she did there, her best friends knew better than to ask. She went on to serve with VISTA in Canton, Ohio, working with people in poverty in the years before the program became AmeriCorps. Jean married Jim Lamoureux on July 25, 1970. They raised three daughters in Cleveland Heights before moving to Columbus and then to Villa Park, Illinois, where they spent decades. In recent years, they lived in Madison, Ohio. Jean spent many years as a research librarian and even had a stint as an activities director at a nursing home. In every role she held, Jean did useful work, serving others, without fanfare.

Her sense of humor was dry and sharp. She found peace in simple things: time under a big tree, an afternoon by the lake, a good book, and then another good book. Life was not always easy, and Jean was not always given easy things to carry. She mastered the line of the serenity prayer: accept the things you cannot change with grace and patience.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughters Shannon, Jill (Mike Leigh), and Karen aka Dot; her grandchildren Brenna, James, Alden, and Ariellah; her brother John Hannon (Pat) and sister Connie Schreiber (Fred). She was loved by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who considered themselves lucky to make the cut. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and J. Elliott Hannon.

A celebration of life will be held at Lake Erie Bluffs on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 11:30 am - 3:30 pm. For those interested, a mass of remembrance will be offered for Jean at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Painesville at 10am on Thursday, July 23, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The wind is at her back and God holds her in the palm of His hand.

Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH 44041, assisted the family with arrangements.
