Obituary

Jesse Lee James, 46, of Painesville, Ohio, transitioned Saturday, October 8, 2022 in the presence of family.
Born August 18, 1976 the son of Knova (James) Wooten & Tyrone T. Sails. Jesse James attended Painesville City Schools graduation from Harvey High School. Later he attended Lakeland Community College for his degree in Business Entrepreneurship.
He was a welder by trade, and later went on to secure his certification as a Drug Counselor. Jesse had a knack for giving our nicknames using many references to song lyrics or movies. He enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, riding around in his truck and listening to music, going out to eat, cracking jokes and laughing. However, none of this compares to the love he had for his family. Jesse loved his son, Keenan Meeks, whom he spent a lot of time with, and was very proud of his many achievements. He also loved his mother, Knova, whom he always stayed in close contact with.
Jesse spent time exploring his spirituality through reading and studying his Bible. He had many discussions about his life and spirituality he shared with his Uncle Ed, Uncle Darin, and Auntie Paula. Jesse joked a lot with his Auntie Dilsie and Cousin Scherrie who he shared many good times with. He always loved checking in on his extended family, Kurrenia Meeks, who gave Jesse much practice into what fatherhood would look like by asking him for 50 dollars instead of 5 for her birthday. Jesse loved all the kids he had a hand in raising from Shaka Cahill, Daedae Cahill, Zy'Hanna Cahill (Baby Gurl), Benjamin Britt, and all his cousins and their kids.
Jesse is a beloved son, grandson, father, cousin. Some would even call him a brother even though he was raised as an only child. He did have four siblings, Demetris, Artiea, Michael, and Michelle. He will for sure be missed.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 10:00am to 11:00am at New Hope Baptist Church, 428 West Jackson Street, Painesville, Ohio 44077. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am at the church with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
