John Eric Jones, 85, of Jefferson, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

John was born on August 16, 1940, in Marble Hill, Missouri, to Harry and Nova Jones. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from April 17, 1958, to October 3, 1961. On August 30, 1959, John married the love of his life, Elaine J. Jones, in Gaffney, South Carolina. Together they shared many decades of marriage and built a loving family.

A hardworking man throughout his life, John spent many years as an auto mechanic, a trade he took great pride in. Later in life, he continued working as a security guard. He was also deeply involved in his community, serving as a Boy Scout troop leader and positively impacting the lives of many young people.

John enjoyed spending his free time golfing, hunting, and fishing—activities that brought him peace and joy and often time spent with family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Elaine J. Jones; his sons, John Jones (Cecilia), Eric Jones, Keith Jones (the late Debbie), Jason Jones (Sonya), and Chris Jones; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nova Jones, and his daughter, Nova Legare.

A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.

John will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his service to his country, and the quiet joy he found in life's simple pleasures.
