John J. Polz, Jr, age 79 of Eastlake, Ohio, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at ProMedica of Mentor. John was born on January 27, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio to parents John Polz Sr and Josephine Avsec. After graduating from Benedictine in 1961, John joined the United States Navy where he served from 1961-1965. After being honorably discharged from the military, John joined the University Heights Police Department where he later retired from in 1985. He was a proud member of the FOP Lodge #87, and in his free time he enjoyed the outdoors including camping, grilling, and playing cards.
John is survived by his loving children John C. (Tammy) Polz, Steven Polz and Andrew Polz; Grandchildren, Zack Polz, Gina Fatica and Justin Trissel; Sister, Judy (Patrick) O'Herron; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Laura Phillips (1979); second wife Donna Scharler (2017) and Sister, Barbara Folger.
There will be a Funeral Mass held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 5, 2022, at St. Vitus Church, 6019 Lausche Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. Family and Friends will be received prior to the service at 9:00 am. Burial at All Souls Cemetery will be held at a future date.
