Obituary

Judy Rose Mitchonie, 73, of Saybrook Township passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at her home.
She was born June 7, 1950, in Oakland, California to John and Barbara Maciel. On October 18, 1980, Judy married Pasquale "Pat" Mitchonie in Reno, Nevada and together they shared 30 years of love and memories before he passed away in December of 2010.
Judy loved her family and was an avid animal lover who took care of every person and animal she encountered. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, playing pool, gardening, and fishing with her husband.
She is survived by her children, Maria Mead, Tony (Bobbie Sue) Applegate, and Sherrie Mitchonie. Judy was known as "Ava" to her 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Michael (Mary) Atkinson, Barb Vanderveer, John Maciel and Paul (Erika) Thatcher.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Pasquale "Pat" Mitchonie; parents, John and Barbara Maciel; son, Ronald "Ronnie" Applegate; son-in-law, Jeffrey M. Mead, Sr.; grandson, Anthony Applegate, Jr.
A private family service will be held followed by a burial next to her husband in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio.
In place of flowers, contributions can be made to the family to help continue her love of rescuing/helping all of the animals. Donations can be mailed to Lake Erie Cremation, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio 44041.
Her family wishes to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to Hospice of the Western Reserve for the love and care given to Judy and her family.
Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services of Geneva, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
