Obituary

Keith Edward Reeder, age 77, of Ashtabula, died peacefully at home on Friday, April 8, 2022 surrounded by loved ones and faithful canine companions after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Aberdeen, Maryland to Thomas and Inez Reeder on December 23, 1944. He spent his formative years in Geneva, Ohio, graduating from Geneva High School in 1962. Keith was a dedicated 40 year employee at CEI/First Energy, as a mechanic and then as manager of five garages. Never one to sit idle, retirement led Keith to an additional 14 years employed at Home Depot as the "go to guy."

Keith is survived by his loving wife, Susan Smith, whom he married on June 16, 2016. Additionally, he is survived by children, Jeffery (Juanita) Reeder, James Reeder, Thomas Reeder, Carrie (Patrick) O'Boyle; step-children, Chad (Diane) Loomis, Aaron (Adrian) Loomis, Miranda (Matt) Beaudet; grandchildren, Cassie, Destiny, Brohden, Brayson, Sage, Allison, Alex, Erik, Makayla, Ian, Kara, Jonathan; great grandchildren, Gannon, Jace, and Teagan; siblings, Lynda (Cliff) Henry, Patricia (Sam, dec) Brummett; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and adoring canine rescues, Luigi and Mugsy.

Keith walked through life with great energy and dependability, exuding selflessness, unconditional love, and a sprinkle of "shenanigan leader." Putting others at ease, his storytelling was rich and his laughter infectious. Keith was a curious explorer and conversationalist especially related to cars, culinary creations, and home brewing. He strived to humbly teach others and lend a helping hand with his well-honed mechanic skills, wood working, as well as volunteering at the Jefferson United Methodist Church Christian Cafe, coaching for Midget League Football and softball leagues, music boosters and car and snowmobile clubs. He was fun-loving and lived all seasons of life with intention, always showing up to cheer for and support his loved ones. He enjoyed countless car projects, hosting family for dinners and fishing adventures on his pontoon boat. Additionally, he remained close with many 1962 classmates, connecting as a group at local wineries monthly.

Funeral services will take place at Jefferson United Methodist Church in Jefferson, Ohio on April 16th, 2022. Calling hours are 10am to 12pm, followed directly by the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church or the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League as both were near to his heart. Our deepest thanks to the thoughtful and compassionate care teams with The Seidman Cancer Center and Hospice of the Western Reserve.
