Obituary

Larry Jay Wright, 81, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at his home in Geneva, OH., with his wife at his bedside. He was born April 5, 1943, in Geneva, OH., to parents Orville and Rachael (Dodge) Wright. Larry married Carol Vincent on June 20, 1970, in Geneva, OH., and they were together for the next 54 years. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1962, and in 1960 he was awarded the most valuable player for football during his junior year of high school. Larry retired in 2010 from Geneva Area Schools where he worked as custodian, he also worked at Geneva Rubber, Geneva True Temper, RMI, and was a substitute bus driver for Geneva and Ashtabula Schools. He enjoyed puttering around in his garage, golfing, and loved his football teams which included, the Geneva Eagles, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cleveland Browns. Larry coached the Browns of the Geneva Midget Football league from 1969 until 1988. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was very proud to have served in the Navy from 1964-1968, Larry was also a lifelong member of the Geneva VFW. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Carol Wright; twin brother, Lewis (Margaret) Wright of Melbourne, Florida; sister, and Kim Wright Dunford of Roaming Shores, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Rachael Wright; in laws, Vern and Mary Vincent; grandparents, George and Gladys Dodge, Clair and Blanche Wright; siblings, Elaine Gillespie, Brian Wright Sr., and Thomas Wright; special nephew, Thomas Wright II; and special niece Joyce Dunford Miller. A visitation will be held from 12-2 on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, until the time of the service at Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, Ohio 44041. A reception will follow the service at 4pm at Geneva VFW, 76 Depot St, Geneva, OH 44041. The burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 350 Eastwood St, Geneva, Ohio 44041 at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to, Feed Our Vets Ashtabula, 433 Center St, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, and Traditions Health Hospice, 4531 Belmont Avenue Unit #7, Youngstown, Ohio 44505. The family would like to send thank you to Traditions Health Hospice nurses and aides for their passionate care. Also, thank you to Ashtabula Regional Home Health nurses and aides, Kathy A., Maisie H., Kendra, Denise, Mary, and Dianna for your help in caring for Larry.
