Lioba (Lolly) Cacilia Ostas (Gruber), age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at The Preserve at Mentor Ridge.
Lolly was born on September 19th, 1930, in Deilheim, Germany. She was raised in Hockenheim, Germany where her father was a schoolteacher. She later moved to Australia and then to the United States. Lolly often talked of the ballroom dances that she regularly attended in Germany. She modeled in Australia before moving to the United States with her sister Maria at the request of her sister Elizabeth. She missed her sisters Hildegard and Anne Marie and visited them as often as possible. She married her first husband, Chester, who later passed away. Later in life she met Steve. He was her partner in life, travel, and he adored her. After first moving to Cleveland, she started working at Groger Travel in the old Arcarde. This is where she learned English and the travel industry. She later moved to Shipka Travel in Parma. Lolly loved to play bridge with her friends, she played couples bridge with Steve and then later with a couple of ladies bridge groups. Her true enjoyment was on the many trips that she took with Steve. They loved to dance and socialize on the cruise ships as well as traveling and experiencing many countries of the world.
She leaves behind her sister Betty and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans Gruber and Rosalia Gruber (Munsch); brothers, Alois Gruber, and Josef Gruber; sisters, Hildegard Gelb, Maria Spangler, and Anne Marie Harrer. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 16th at 11:30am at St. Anthony of Padua, 6750 State Road, Parma, OH 44134. A burial will follow the mass at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070. Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services assisted the family with funeral arrangements, 1500 Harpersfield Rd., Geneva, Ohio, 44041.
