Lorraine Lois Schupp passed away on July 11th at the age of 94. A longtime Kirtland resident, Lorraine was preceded in death by Lewis John, her husband of 69 years, granddaughter Lora Scotese, sister Dorothy Judge and parents Dennis and May Taitt. She is survived by her 5 children; Pat Greene of Painesville, Kathleen Kanuk (Daniel) of Chardon, Carole Scotese (Mike) of Wisconsin, John Schupp of Tiffin and Amy Hoffman of Eastlake. She was also grandmother to 15 and great grandmother to 16.
Lorraine was very involved with the Kirtland High School Band Boosters for 44 years, awarded volunteer of the year (1968) by the Kirtland Area Service Council, sited mother of the year (1970) by the News Herald, 8-year president of the Parent Teacher Association and cited, along with her husband, as Kirtland Kiwanis citizens of the year in 1994. She was also the official strawberry chocolate dipper for the Kirtland Strawberry Festival since its inception back in 1965.
She and her husband were responsible for turning the Gildersleeve Elementary School into Kirtland's Senior Center back in 1996 and remained as one of their original board members for 16 years.
In addition to her many community endeavors, she too enjoyed sewing, baking, painting, rug hooking and crafting Christmas ornaments and chocolate covered apples each year for family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family suggest donations be sent to The Kirtland Senior Center, (7900 Euclid Chardon Rd, Kirtland, OH 44094) in memory of Lorraine Schupp.
Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
