Mary Josephine "Jo" Hawes passed away October 6, 2025, after a long battle with COPD.
Mary Jo was born on May 15, 1942, in Cleveland to her parents Arthur ("Bud") and Pauline Lutz. She lived most of her life in Ashtabula County, Ohio and attended Jefferson High School. She had many jobs/roles in life, but the most important to her was that of mother. Her family was very important to her, and she lived her life around her children and grandchildren.
She loved roses, country music, and baking. Her apple pies were famous. She also loved bingo, casinos, and spending time with family.
She is survived by her sister Patricia "Patty" Farmer; children Kim Wortman, Scott Hawes, Carl Hawes (Shannan); grandchildren Carl T. Wortman, Cierra Brenner (Tyler), Angelica Williams (Trent), Kristi Zampini (Danny Ungers), Anthony Zampini, Miranda Hawes, Nathaniel Hawes (Kristy), Nicholas Hawes, Collin Hawes, Caden Hawes, Samuel Hawes; great-grandchildren Carynne, Connor, Nora, Josephine "Josie", Clara, Theodore "Teddy".
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Nancy Hrdlicka, Jacki Mason; daughter Kelly Solarek; and daughter-in-law Brenda Hawes.
