Mary E. Hoopingarner "nicknamed Soul", age 67, of Mentor, passed away on August 31st, 2025, at Mapleview Country Villa in Chardon. Mary was born on November 30th, 1957, in Painesville, Ohio, to parents Robert Hoopingarner and Mary Katherine (Phillips) Hoopingarner. Mary attended Mentor High School and spent a lot of time at Shore Junior High School to attend Mass weekly growing up. Mary attended St. Bede's Catholic Church in her younger years, and her family was proud to be a part of the founding congregation. Mary went on to further her education, earning an associate's degree at Lakeland College and becoming a licensed Registered Nurse. Mary worked at Lake West Hospital for nearly 20 years, and she was so proud of the level of care she provided for her patients and received a lot of positive recognition from the patients and from her co-workers, this kept her always striving to do her best for the patients she helped. Mary spent her free time at home tending to her yard and garden, and she was a true nature lover, she loved feeding and watching the birds from her back porch. She also loved her dogs so much; she was one of the biggest animal lovers. Mary leaves behind her siblings, Robert "Bob" (Marianne) Hoopingarner, Timothy Hoopingarner, and Ann Hoopingarner, she also leaves behind her dear nieces Allegra (Patrick) Waters, and Hanna Hoopingarner, and her nephew Kevin Hoopingarner. Mary also leaves behind her beloved Goddaughter, Christina Bauer DiFrancisco. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Katherine, her brothers Jim and Kevin (Lynne, surviving) Hoopingarner, and a very dear friend Connie. A Funeral Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17th, 2025, at 10:00am. Mass will follow at 11:00am with a luncheon gathering after Mass, all will be held at St. Bede's Parish, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, OH. 44060. A Burial will take place in the near future at Mentor Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made in Mary's name to the Holden Arboretum, 9550 Sperry Rd., Kirtland, OH., 44094, or to the Lake County Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd. E, Mentor, OH., 44060.
