Obituary

We celebrate the life of Paul Michael Janousek, 54, of Euclid, Ohio, who passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, May 22, 2025 of natural causes— a man who loved deeply, stood firmly, laughed loudly, and lived unapologetically.

Paul was born December 13, 1970, in Berwyn, Illinois, to his loving mother, Margaret Janousek, who preceded him in death.

While working at Sitel in Ocala, Florida, Paul met the love of his life, Sara Axelrod, and they were married on June 13, 2018.

Paul was many things: a devoted husband to Sara, a proud father to Justin (Lourdes) and Molly (Damaso), a loving grandfather to Kristopher, Victoria, Emilia, and Dylan, and, of course, a fierce dog dad to Sadie and Max. Let's not forget his grand-dog's Maddie, Muffin, and Lucy — because in Paul's world, family always included the furry ones.

He was the kind of man who could light up a room with his wit — sharp, sarcastic, often unexpected — and yet he could just as easily ground you with a quiet act of kindness. His humor was his armor, but his heart was wide open. Whether it was helping his kids, doting on his grandchildren, or standing beside Sara in life's many ups and downs, Paul was all in — every time.

Paul had a passion for the things that mattered to him. He had strong opinions — especially when it came to politics. Let's be honest: if there's a way to write "I still hate Trump" on a headstone, Paul would probably insist on it. He didn't just talk about what was right — he stood for it. Always. He had no time for cruelty, ignorance, or injustice, and he wasn't afraid to call it out. But even in his sharpest critiques, there was a deep love for truth, for decency, and for making the world just a little better.

He also had a playful side — a love for Legos, a childlike joy in building things, whether it was a tiny brick castle or a life filled with memories. He had a joy for reading - anything HP Lovecraft. He enjoyed playing Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons.

But more than anything, Paul loved his people. He loved Sara with a devotion that was unwavering — a love built on partnership, on respect, and on shared humor, even during life's most difficult days. He loved his children, Justin and Molly, with pride and open arms, always ready with advice, support, or a perfectly-timed sarcastic comment. And to his grandchildren, he was warm, funny, wise, and always present.

Paul was not perfect — he would be the first to tell you that, probably with a smirk and a shrug. But he was real. Honest. Loyal. And fiercely loving. He lived life with intention, with conviction, and with just enough edge to keep everyone on their toes.

As we remember Paul, let us carry forward that fierce love. Let us stand for what is right, speak truth, and laugh — often and loudly. That's how we honor him.

Rest easy, Paul. Your voice, your laugh, your love, and yes — your Lego collection — will live on in all of us.
