Peter E. (Pete) Savarese, age 78, entered into eternal life surrounded by his family on June 9th, 2023 at home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on November 26, 1944 to Josephine (Ferrando) and Cresto Savarese.
Peter was a hard working and devoted family man. He avoided the spotlight at all costs and preferred to think about others above himself. He was extremely generous and we are sure his grandkids never heard the word no. Pete loved to do woodworking and would spend hours in the workshop his uncles built on Harbor Avenue. Pete loved his yardwork and took great pride in his pristine lawn. He would spend hours each summer driving his beloved fire engine red 1957 MG and every so often, his grandkids or wife would get a special ride to his favorite Madsen's Donuts. Pete was extremely devoted to his family and would often share memories of his childhood. He had many things to be proud of but nothing more than his grandchildren whom he loved and spoiled endlessly.
Pete graduated from St. John High School in 1962 and was a lifetime Herald. He was defensive end and offensive guard on the Herald football team where he received many awards including Defensive Player of the Year. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren attending his alma mater. Pete also was an active member at the YMCA and was a champion handball player; and had many callouses to prove it.
After serving in the United States Navy on the USS Guadalcanal from 1967-1970, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Kent State University. He worked for Conrail and Ashtabula City Schools followed by 25 years with Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA).
Pete is survived by his wife Peggy (Pavolino-Myers) of 45 years and his three daughters - Traci (David) Tsai, Tricia (Rich) Dever, and Laura (Dean) Feiler; his nine grandchildren Anna, Ben, Maggie, and Jack Tsai; Katie and Molly Dever; Griffin, Jacob, and Owen Feiler. He is also survived by his brother and best friend Chris (Kay Humphrey) Savarese. He lovingly called his favorite people "Buddy", if he called you "Buddy," you were very special to him. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, and several special aunts and uncles.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 16th from 10:00-11:45am at Our Lady of Peace Parish (Mt. Carmel Church), 1200 E. 21st. Street, Ashtabula, Ohio. Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 noon.
