Richard A. Downing

Richard A. Downing, 82, of Madison, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born on February 26, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, Rick was the son of William N. and Helen (Woodrich) Downing.

Rick graduated from Eastlake North High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. He later built a long and successful career as a Tool and Die Designer with Lincoln Electric, where he worked for more than 30 years.

A lifelong sports fan, Rick especially enjoyed cheering for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Guardians. He also loved camping, boating, cruising, and spending time reading. Rick was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Geneva.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Downing; his daughters, Tracy Scott and Aimee Konst (Darryl); and his grandson, Bryson Moffat. He is also survived by his siblings, William C. Downing (Bette) and Kathleen Milo (Daniel).

He was preceded in death by his parents, William N. and Helen Downing, and by his son, Chad W. Downing.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 811 South Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041, on June 8 at 11:00am with a luncheon to immediately follow at the church. A private inurnment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Geneva will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Preschool, 811 South Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041.
