Richard C. Hildebrand, 81, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 20, 2026.
He was born December 30, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Carl Hildebrand and Charlotte Butz. Richard graduated from Geneva High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served in-country from January 1966 to January 1967 as a machine gunner with the 716th Military Police Battalion, 615th M.P. Company. Following his service, he remained active in veterans' organizations, including the Geneva VFW Post 6846, Madison American Legion Post 112, Perry AMVETS 1971, the Geneva Eagles 2243, and was a member of the NRA.
Richard spent his career as a process engineer and troubleshooter at Geneva Rubber and Park Ohio, before retiring. Outside of work, he was deeply involved in youth sports, dedicating more than 25 years to Little League baseball. He served as an assistant district administrator and umpire consultant for Ohio District 1 and had the honor of umpiring the Little League World Series in 1993 and the Big-League World Series in 1996.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with his sons, as well as yard work and bowling.
Richard is survived by his wife, Cheryl Page; his children, Richard C. Hildebrand Jr. (Jennie Steele) and Robert (Sue) Hildebrand; step-daughters, Dawn Lake and Alyson Satterfield; his grandson, Greg Hildebrand (Kristy); step-grandchildren, Michael Miller (Amber), and Corry Miller (Jamie); and his great-grandchildren, Aiden Hildebrand, Charlotte Hildebrand, Jaxen Miller, Zoey Miller, Chase Miller, and Carly Miller. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Ann Massucci; his sister-in-law, Paula Hildebrand; nephew James Hildebrand Jr.; niece, Angelina Hildebrand; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonita Hildebrand; his parents and his brothers, Robert and James Hildebrand.
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country, and the lasting impact he made on generations of young athletes and his community
Calling hours will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH 44041. Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Trumbull Cemetery, 2100 St Rt 534, Geneva, OH. A celebration of Richard's life will follow the burial at 1pm, at Geneva Eagles, 120 Depot St, Geneva, OH.
