Robert Newell Slayton

Robert Newell "Bob" Slayton, 60, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 27, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio, Bob was the son of Robert L. Slayton and Barbara Slayton.

Bob was a man of remarkable strength and compassion. Before his diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, he took great pride in his career at Windstream, where he made many friends he loved and considered family.

Outside of work, Bob pursued many passions. He dedicated years of commitment and discipline to bodybuilding. In 2016, Bob earned 2nd Place at the NPC Natural Northern USA Bodybuilding Contest in the Men’s Masters Over 50 division. He was also an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed the camaraderie of his motorcycle club, loved golfing with friends, and had a strong passion for rock music (shout out to OX49!).

Bob’s courage and selflessness were recognized when he received the Clearwater Hero Award after stepping in to stop a severe domestic violence incident. Those who knew Bob will remember him as someone who always stood up for others and never turned away from someone in need.

More than anything, Bob loved his family. He was a loving father to Nicholas, Eric, and Jacob Slayton. One of the greatest blessings of his life was becoming a grandfather to Brody, Neji, and Maple Slayton, whom he adored. He was previously married to Jodi Slayton, with whom he shared many years, many laughs, and three boys they loved more than anything.

Bob was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Slayton; his sister, Kelly Slayton; his children, Nicholas (Tori) Slayton, Eric Slayton, and Jacob Slayton; his cherished grandchildren, Brody, Neji, and Maple Slayton; his nieces, Tiffany Slayton, Samantha Lindsey, and their five daughters; along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Slayton; his sister, Kimberly Slayton; and his nephew, Robbie Lindsey.

Bob was a Christian whose faith was an important part of his life. He believed in God's love, the promise of eternal life, and the hope of being reunited with those we love again. He believed deeply in peace, love, living free, and forgiveness.

His life touched countless people through his compassion, charm, and the strength with which he faced life's challenges. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

"We will miss him for years, but he will see us in a minute."

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bob’s sister, Kelly Slayton, who served as Bob’s live-in caregiver following his diagnosis, spending every day loving him and making sure he was truly cared for. We love you so much.

Celebration of Life services will be announced at a later date.
