Ruth Haines

Ruth L. “Granny” Haines, 72, of Jefferson, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at UH Cleveland Medical Center following a brief illness, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born March 5, 1954, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Ruth was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Gromley. She graduated from Jefferson Area High School with the Class of 1972. On August 10, 1973, she married the love of her life, Roger Haines, in Jefferson, and together they built a loving family and shared 53 cherished years together.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She found great joy in genealogy and spent countless hours researching family history and connecting with others through Ancestry.com. She was active in her local churches and enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and Bible studies. Ruth’s caring spirit and dedication to family and faith touched the lives of many.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Haines; her children, Corine (Thomas) Hamper and Cindi Haines; her grandchildren, Tyler Conoboy, Kaitlynn Conoboy, Joseph Hamper Jr., David Thompson, Garrett Thompson, Michael Perkins, and Emily Walker; and her step-grandchildren, Braden Hamper, Austyn Hamper, and Lily Hamper. She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Yvonne (Michael) Howland, Hazel (Zander) Pierce, Ralph (Annie) Gromley, and Robert (Jacqueline) Gromley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Christie Haines Hamper; as well as one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Per Ruth’s request, no services will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made by planting a tree in Ruth’s memory.
