Shawn Diane "Diane" Mulkey

Shawn Diane "Diane" Mulkey, 54, of Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully at UH Geneva Medical Center on July 15, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with an illness. Her last day was exactly what she would have hoped for and she was surrounded by the people she loved most.

Diane was born on March 24, 1972. She is survived by her loving parents, Arthur and Evelyn Mulkey; her son, Evan Mulkey; her daughter, Bailey Mulkey; her sisters, Dana Fearing and Denise Post; her cherished grandchildren, Kira Mulkey and Beau Mulkey; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

For Diane, nursing was never just a career—it was her calling. As a Registered Nurse, she poured her heart into caring for others and took great pride in the work she did. She was a mentor, an advocate, and a fierce voice for her patients. Those who worked alongside her remember her as fearless, knowledgeable, and unafraid to speak up when something wasn't right, some have said she was fearless with a spitfire mouth that you did not want to be on the other end of. Many have shared that Diane inspired them to become nurses themselves, and that her guidance, strength, and willingness to teach shaped their own careers. She touched more lives than she likely ever realized.

Outside of work, Diane embraced life with an adventurous spirit. She loved traveling to new places and found peace anywhere there was water—whether it was the ocean, a lake, or a swimming pool. It is fitting that on her final day, she spent time in the pool, one of the places she loved most. She also adored her dogs, who brought her endless comfort and companionship.

Above all else, Diane loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment she spent with them. She had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that could brighten any room, and those who knew her best will remember the laughter she brought into their lives. She could be stubborn—a true hardhead—but beneath that determination was a beautiful heart and a generous soul that cared deeply for the people she loved.

Diane's legacy lives on through her family, the countless patients she cared for, the nurses she inspired, and the many friends and coworkers whose lives were made brighter because they knew her. She will be remembered for her courage, her compassion, her quick wit, her fierce loyalty, and her unwavering willingness to stand up for what was right.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Monday, July 20, 2026 from 12-2pm and from 5-7pm at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH 44041. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11am with a funeral service beginning at 12pm at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Maple Grove Cemetery, 16337 Leroy Thompson Rd, Thompson, OH 44086.
