Shirley Joanne Chipps

Shirley Joanne Chipps, 89, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio, passed away peacefully while in hospice care in Euclid, Ohio. Born on September 12, 1936, in Morgantown, West Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of Irene and Ulmont Moore.

On December 15, 1956, Shirley married the love of her life, Elmer T. “Tom” Chipps Jr., in Morgantown, West Virginia. Together they built a loving family and shared many years of devotion until Tom’s passing on October 6, 2024.

Shirley was a graduate of Morgantown High School and was known for her warm smile, kind heart, and dedication to her family. She worked at the front desk of both Regal Lanes and Painesville Lanes, where she enjoyed meeting people and making lasting friendships.

An avid bowler and golfer, Shirley found joy in staying active and spending time with friends. She had a special love for animals, especially her cats and dogs, which brought her great comfort and companionship throughout her life. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life and guided her with strength and compassion.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Dan Chipps (Annette) and Barry Chipps; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer T. “Tom” Chipps Jr.; her son, Thomas A. Chipps Sr., who passed away on March 25, 2019; her parents, Irene and Ulmont Moore; her grandparents, Frank and Ida Moore; five brothers; and one sister.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on September 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Rd, Geneva, OH 44041.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Lake County Humane Society or Reserve Care Hospice, organizations that reflected her love for animals and appreciation for the compassionate care she received.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice House in Euclid, Ohio, for their exceptional care, kindness, and support during Shirley’s final days.
