Thomas (Tom) J. Burd, 81, of Eastlake, Ohio, went home to his heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 peacefully at his family home surrounded by his loved ones.
Tom was born in Brenizer, Pennsylvania, to Thomas Charles and Sarah Virginia (Lear) Burd and after graduating from high school he proudly and honorably served in the US Marine Corps. After his discharge he worked for Picker International before starting his own company, A Very Special Delivery, Inc., which he owned and operated for many years. He was an active member of Community of the Holy Spirit Church in Willoughby and in his spare time, he enjoyed spending time at both the Eastlake and Willowick Senior Centers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sarah Burd; children, Kathleen (Richard, deceased) Kabbert and Christopher (Sadia) Burd; grandchildren, William and Michael Kabbert, Ian, James, Ismail, Amir, Sabrina, and Ibrahim Burd; siblings, Agnes (Phil, deceased) Dezzutti, Evelyn (Joe) Havrilla, Nancy (Ted) Marron, and Ralph (Barbara) Burd.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law Marie and Earl Oberdick.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:0am on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Community of the Holy Spirit Church, 36600 Stevens Blvd, Willoughby, Ohio 44094, with Pastor Chris Fisher officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Community of the Holy Spirit Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to everyone from Hospice of the Western Reserve who gave Tom such wonderful care.
