Virginia "Ginny" Towe-Terry, 64, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away at her family home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, after a brief fight with brain cancer. She was born in Ogdensburg, New York on December 30, 1959, to parents Mary and Richard Towe. Ginny attended Ogdensburg Free Academy and graduated in 1978, she continued her education at SUNY Plattsburg and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in 1981. While attending college she met the love of her life, Reverend Bill Terry, the two wed in 1982 in her hometown of Ogdensburg, NY. Ginny furthered her education at Boston University and received a certificate in Gerontology in 1983. She was a social worker by training and held numerous retail positions over the years. Ginny eventually worked for a senior day care center in Downers Grove, IL. as well as a women's shelter in Chicago. She was a case manager for Sacred Heart Services in Michigan for 12 years and for Community Counseling Center of Ashtabula for the past nine and a half years. Ginny was in the National Honor Society while in high school and in recent years was chosen to run a pilot program for the Social Security Administration. She also trained to develop a drop in/day center for people struggling with mental health issues (The Clubhouse). Ginny grew up Episcopalian and spent her adult life in churches pastored by her husband in The United Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Reverend William Terry and their two cats. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Richard Towe, and grandparents, Sidney and Mary Shannon. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5pm to 7:30pm at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jefferson, OH., 41 E Jefferson St, Jefferson, OH 44047. A celebration of life will held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11am at First United Church of Christ, 2870 OH-307, Austinburg, OH 44010. Her ashes will eventually be scattered at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to First United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 253, Austinburg, OH. 44010, and to Community Counseling, 2801 "C" Court, Ashtabula, OH. 44004. Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements.
