William "Ed" Edward Wood

William Edward “Ed” Wood, 68, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Rae Ann Nursing Home in Geneva.

Ed was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 18, 1958, to the late Harold B. Wood Sr. and Sally Hale Wood. He was a 1977 graduate of Perry High School as well as Auburn Vocational School in 1977, where he studied auto body repair.

In 1979, Ed married the love of his life, Veronica I. Wood, in Geneva. They shared 43 years of marriage before her passing in 2022.

Ed was a hardworking man who owned and operated Northeast Ohio Recovery Services from 2006 to 2014. He also worked as an operator for Birrell’s Towing from 2001 to 2006 and at W.H. Scrap & Recycling from 2016 until 2022.

One of Ed’s greatest passions was racing. He enjoyed traveling with his son, Walter, to different racetracks and watching him race. Among the tracks they visited were Painesville Speedway, where they spent many years from 1998 to 2017, along with Lorain County Raceway, Barberton Speedway, Galesburg Speedway, Franklin Speedway and Lexington Raceway.

Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1978 to 1982 and received an honorable discharge on June 11, 1982, after four years of service.

He is survived by his children, Walter E. Wood of Geneva, Michelle Schultz of Florida, and Kimberly Marrow of Canton, Ohio; his grandchildren, Hailey M. Ralph of Geneva, Noah M. Wood of Geneva, Eric M. Schultz of Madison; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Schultz of Ashtabula and another great-grandchild on the way; his siblings, Franklin (Nettie) Wood of Madison, Ohio, and Robin (Russ) Colman of Ravenna, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica I. Wood (2022); his parents, Harold and Sally Wood; and his siblings Tolliver Wood, Harold B. Wood Jr., and infant sister, Florence Ellen.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rae Ann Nursing Home for their care of Ed during his four-year stay, and to the Western Reserve Hospice Team (Ember) for their care and compassion during Ed’s final weeks.

The family would also like to thank Jerry Brummit for his weekly coffee and card-playing visits; Mission BBQ of Mentor, Ohio, for their kindness, compassion, meals and cards for Ed; and Caleigh Puffenbarger for her constant love and compassion during Ed’s facility stay. A special thank-you is also extended to Jordan Fade for all the help and compassion shown to Ed during his facility stay.

A private family service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 11am-12pm with Military Honors at Lake Erie Cremation and Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio.

He will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio along with his wife of 43 years, Veronica I. "Ronnie" Wood, who passed away August 19, 2022.
